The former recruitment boss of Australia of 38 years old originally from Worcestershire was inspired to seek a simpler life when he was diagnosed with with multiple sclerosis in 2007. He was even temporarily paralyzed in those conditions. This all incident made him to rethink his high-flying career and the stress and unhealthy lifestyle that came along with ‘man cave’ .
He spent eight months enlarging an existing cave house in Wyre Forest, Worcestershire, removing 70 tonnes of stone and complete with running water, underfloor heating and even wi-fi. The father of two first came across the cave in 1999, when he and some friends took shelter from the rain there while on a bike ride. Ten years later, while leafing through a magazine, he discovered that it was for sale for £62,000.
This ambitious makeover captured the imagination of viewers when it was featured on Channel 4’s Grand Designs in September.
