Government and the agitating Samyukta Loktantrik Madhesi Morcha talks team held an official meeting at Tarai Madhes Loktantrik Party office in Bijulibazar, Kathmandu on Wednesday afternoon.  

The two-hour long official meeting between the government and Madhesi morcha took place following Tuesday’s unofficial meeting that was held between Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Kamal Thapa-led government talks team and TMLP Chairman Mahantha Thakur. The SLMM, on today’s meet, has demanded that the government bring a clear roadmap regarding the issue of state delineation. “Our bottom-line is the issue of delineation,” said Ram Naresh Rae, a member of the Morcha talks team, “We have clearly stated the issue of state delineation is our first priority among our other demands.” The morcha have been demanding two states in the Tarai-Madhes region. Nkita Dutta will be playing a Delhi-based character in her upcoming show ‘Ek Duje Ke Vaaste’.Nikita was last seen in Dream Girl, but she quit the show after she felt that the storyline had digressed from its original plot. “In Ek Duje…, I play Suman, a girl who runs her own tiffin service in Delhi. She is calm and composed at home, but quite bold when it comes to facing the outside world. I quit Dream Girl because it was getting monotonous, but this new character is going to be quite a challenge,” she said. Nikita’s parents stay in Delhi and she is looking forward to spending some time with them when the show’s cast and crew come to Delhi. “I didn’t do anything productive during my break after Dream Girl. I didn’t even take a vacation! But we’ve been told that we’ll be shooting in Delhi for the show and I will get to spend some time with my parents who stay here.” Aakanksha Singh was also in contention for the show, but Nikita was chosen as the lead.

A Cambodian man plagued by a giant growth on his face may have the opportunity to have it removed after two tourists started a Facebook campaign to help get him surgery.Australians Diana Koski and her husband John Nettleton came across 34-year-old Vid while holidaying in the country’s capital Phnom Penh last week.Vid, who is believed to be homeless and unemployed, was born with the growth that has grown to hang below his chin and completely cover the right side of his face.’He just walked past us in the street near our hotel and it took us by surprise. I said to my husband we have to help this man,’ Ms Koski told Daily Mail Australia.’I started talking to him, but it was difficult because he didn’t speak English. A few of the local people who we had seen shooing him away before came over to help translate.’I told him I’d like to try and help him.’ Vid went back to the couple’s Monsoon Boutique Hotel where the manager, Chan Southun, helped them find out how they could assist him.’Whenever I walked with Vid, he walked seven paces behind me. Locals would try and shoo him away. Some of the locals tried to stop him walking in our hotel. ‘He doesn’t beg, he just walks the streets. I imagine he has had a pretty tough life.’

Buakaw Banchamek, a 32-year old muay thai fighter and the two time K-1 World MAX champion , entered this fight with a professional kickboxing record of 257-41-12 (65 knockouts). Today Buakaw had fought with younger opponent, a 28-year old Shaolin kung-fu fighter Yi Long, who has an official record of 47-5-1.

Actually this fight between Buakaw and Yi Long was announced by Max Muay Thai for December 31, 2013, and it should start in 2014. Unfortunately, the match was cancelled because Buakaw was under contract to Thai Fight. Max Muay Thai was threatened, if Buakaw fights on their card.

Look at the previous fight, Buakaw suffered his last defeat in 2014 when he faced Enriko Kehl in the final of the K-1 World MAX (but it was a controversial ending, Buakaw vs Kehl 2); after this bout he came back to win beating Steve Moxon , Dmytro Konstantynov (=Buakaw vs Konstantynov) and Yan Bin (or Yuan Bing, Buakaw vs Bin).

Without all these guys there would be maybe only a few jumps. But with their help it has grown over the last year and today we can say we have one of the biggest and best dirt jump spots in Germany. The Park has different lines for all riding levels. One for beginners with tables, waves and berms. A smaller line with a 6 meter step-up trick jump at the end and on big line with a 8 m boner log, followed by a berm, two jumps 8 meters and 6 meters and a quarter at the end.Yeah, that’s sadly true. A nine years old kid was playing with fire and it got out of control. The police can´t do anything because he is still a child and so we have to wait for answers from an insurance company. That´s right. Last week I signed the contract and I am so damn stoked about that. Definitely, it was always a dream of mine. Maybe every rider dreams about that. Its simply amazing to have such a brand behind me now and I´m looking forward to working with them the upcoming season and hopefully as long as I can. -

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli said the government was committed to accelerating the post-earthquake reconstruction efforts which were already formally launched.Receiving funds for the Prime Minister Natural Disaster Relief Fund at the Prime Minister’s official residence in Baluwatar today, PM Oli said, “The government has intensified the reconstruction of earthquake-damaged structures with the formation of the National Reconstruction Authority and it is committed to further expediting this.”It may be noted that the PM’s commitments came when the reconstruction campaign is yet to reach the people’s level though nine months have already elapsed since the powerful earthquake clobbered the country, causing massive losses of lives (around 9,000) and property.

On the occasion, he pledged to implement the campaign in all the disaster-affected districts in a systematic and transparent way and to fully utlise the fund.A religious organisation Radha Madhav Samiti, Shyama Shyama Dham, Bhaktapur had donated Rs 2.1 million to the Fund.
Samiti Chair Gopal Prasad Sapkota handed over the cheque to the Prime Minister who praised the organisation for its noble efforts in spreading the message of peace, humanity, goodwill and harmony in the society.

Nepal’s Madhesi Morcha Has Not Split

An ailing Sadbhawana Party president Rajendra Mahto today stoutly denied that the Madhesi Morcha, an alliance of four parties of Nepal’s Terai region demanding amendment to the country’s statute, has split.

Mr Mahto’s assertion came in the wake of media reports from Kathmandu that the Samyukta Loktantrik Madhesi Morcha, spearheading the over four-month-old protest, had split with Mr Mahto opting for continuing the agitation separately.

Speaking to IANS from his hospital bed in Medanta, in Gurgaon, near New Delhi, where he is recovering from injuries received in a clash with the police at Biratnagar on December 26, Mr Mahto said: “The Madhesi Morcha remains united and shall continue the struggle which it has been waging for the past more than four months.”

“Our struggle is historic and we shall achieve our goal… We are prepared to carry on our agitation for as long as it takes to secure our genuine demands….”

Mr Mahto reiterated the resolve that the planned agitation programme would be carried forward and denied that there was any change advised by him therein as reported in the Nepali media.

The U.S. Army Soldiers in Afghanistan are now firing an 84mm, reusable, recoilless shoulder-fired conventional munition able to destroy enemy targets hidden behind rocks, trees and buildings , service officials said.

The weapon, called the Multi-Role Anti-Armor, Anti-Personnel Weapons System, known as the Carl-Gustaf, was ordered by the Army in response to an Operational Needs Statement from Afghanistan seeking to procure a direct fire, man-portable, anti-personnel and light structure weapon able, among other things, to respond to insurgent rocket-propelled grenade, or RPG, fire, said Bhuvanesh Thoguluva, chief of Vehicle Protection, Rockets & Shoulder Fired Weapons Branch, Munition Systems & Technical Directorate, Armament Research Development and Engineering Center, Picatinny Arsenal, N.J.

The Carl-Gustaf, which is manufactured by Saab, includes an airburst capability with its High Explosive, or HE, round, Thoguluva said.

“The HE round does have an airburst capability. It is the one that is utilized most often because of its effective range. It uses a mechanical time fuse which is set prior to loading the weapon system,” he said.

Airburst rounds can be pre-programmed to explode in the air at a precise location, thereby maximizing the weapon’s effect against enemy targets hiding, for example, behind a rock, tree or building.

Several Carl Gustaf’s are already in Afghanistan as part of a limited operational assessment, which may indeed result in more deliveries. The Army purchased the weapon by joining with U.S. Special Operations Command in a combined purchase from Saab.

Shortly after, they will fly to Nepal to begin their efforts in earnest.On April 25, the mountainous region in southeast Asia suffered a severe earthquake, killing an estimated 8,000 and injuring another 21,000. The project is the brainchild of Julie Cornelius. After meeting a filmmaker, the idea began to congeal. She chose Sedona as the place to start their campaign because it “is the best mountain biking area. “It’s all of our favorite place to ride …. We thought the mountain bike festival was a good place to kick it off, especially given when we were planning on leaving,” she said. “We’re working on an event where people can ride the bikes that we are going to be riding and we’ll do a meet and greet.” As for choosing Nepal as the destination, it had already been on Cornelius’ radar as a biking destination before the earthquake. “The trails were, in general, known for hiking, but mountain biking has started to grow …. We’re actually hoping to meet up with one of the up-and-coming female mountain bikers there,” she said.Five women will arrive at Kathmandu and ride through Langtang Valley before arriving at the village of Kyanjin Gomba to aid local relief workers. -

The road expansion drive is facing many hurdles because of the contractors responsible for widening and blacktopping of roads not working as per contract citing various reasons. One of these is that the locals are protesting this drive. It is even alleged that some crafty politicians are encouraging such drives by inciting the locals. It is indeed not possible to reimburse all those whose houses and walls had to be brought down and also lost their land to be provided with compensation. However, it is being mooted to make arrangement to provide such for those who have been affected by the criteria set by the government after the year 2031 B.S. But all those who have encroached on public land to build houses should have their buildings dismantled so that the contractors can get on with their work which is not the case now. Instigating illegal owners of the houses to hold protests should, therefore, not be tolerated.

So, out of the government’s plans to extend 150 kilometers of the roads in the capital valley only 57 kilometers have been completed so far, which is well below the target set initially. Many of these roads such as the one between Tinkune to Kalanki has seen all construction halted because the contractors have asked for more money. This is indeed not permissible. No doubt, many irregularities are taking place in the distribution of the money to the contractors and also owners of houses built on encroached land. Meanwhile, if the government was to pay all the amount that has to be reimbursed it would not have sufficient amount for it in the budget. This calls for some thinking. Therefore, the government and the contractors as well as those whose houses were dismantled in the road expansion construction drive should exercise restraint and allow them to build the roads. Many road sections dug up for the expansion purposes in the Kathmandu Valley are still in a state of disrepair, with various unpleasant consequences. High priority should therefore be given to reconstructing them.

Third Gorkha Rifles (3 GR) celebrated the 200th anniversary of their raising. It was a solemn occasion as the inheritors of its hoary traditions reflected on the history of the regiment and the sacrifices made by its men in distant and diverse battlefields.

It reflects on the history of the Indian Army itself, which by its feat of arms secured the British Empire and after Independence ensured that our Republic withstood all threats. Its sacrifices stand as a badge of honour to the backdrop of the regiment’s motto “Kafar huno bandha marnu ramrod” (Better dead than be a coward).

The Gorkhas joined the Indian Army immediately after their defeat in the Nepal War of 1815. Their martial and doughty spirit so impressed the British that they happily enrolled them. Four battalions were raised in 1815. These simple and tough hill men continue to enrol and fight India’s battles with a courage and resoluteness which continues to strike awe in the enemy and inspire their leaders.

The outbreak of the World War 1 found the British Army in desperate straits and two Indian divisions were despatched to France. The 2 Battalion formed a part of the Garhwal Brigade and held the line between Neuve Chappelle and Givenchy. Bitter fighting took place and the first Gorkha Victoria Cross (VC) was won by Rifleman Kulbir Thapa during an attack on La Bassee on September 25, 1915. In fact Kulbir was the first non-Britisher to win the VC.On October 31, 1915, the Battalion was relieved and moved with the division to West Asia right bang into the campaign to evict the Turks from Syria. On February 3, 1917, the third Battalion of the regiment (3/3 GR) was raised and moved to West Asia.

Losing bidders won’t protest NASA commercial cargo awards

Two major aerospace companies that failed to win multibillion-dollar contracts from NASA earlier this month to transport cargo to and from the International Space Station said they have no plans to protest the agency’s decision with the U.S. Government Accountability Office.Representatives of Boeing and Lockheed Martin told SpaceNews that they have been debriefed by NASA about the agency’s selection of Orbital ATK, Sierra Nevada Corporation and SpaceX for Commercial Resupply Services (CRS) 2 contracts awarded Jan. 14, and are satisfied with the agency’s explanation Lockheed Martin spokeswoman Allison Rakes said Jan. 26 that the company received a “thorough” debriefing from NASA after learning it would not receive a CRS-2 contract. “We’ve chosen not to protest,” she said. -

Four women from Nepal held with fake visas

Four Nepalese women who were trying to travel to Sri Lanka on fake visas were arrested at IGI Airport recently. Police said the women were to fly to Colombo posing as tourists and then travel to Dubai and other West Asian nations. -  

The cops have also traced an agent involved in the alleged trafficking of these women. They also suspect the role of airport or airline staff in the racket. At least 30 Nepalese women have been caught while trying to use this route to reach West Asia in the past six months. In 2013, Nepal had put a ban on its women citizens flying directly to nine West Asian countries for employment after a number of bonded labour and flesh trade cases were reported from there. Since then, traffickers have taken the India route to send women to such nations. “Three women, aged 19, 22, 27 and 37, have been arrested after they were caught by the immigration staff for trying to travel to Sri Lanka on on fake visas. Around 1pm on Wednesday, the staff at immigration counter found their visas were forged and called in CISF personnel, who then handed them over to Delhi Police. The women have alleged their visas were arranged by two Nepalese men, Ganesh and Lacha,” said Dinesh Gupta, DCP, IGI. The Nepal government had made it mandatory for its residents in India to require a no-objection certificate from the embassy to fly to nine countries-Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, Iraq, Kuwait, Oman, Lebanon, Libya and UAE. The number of trafficking cases involving Nepalese women has drastically shot up in the aftermath of the 2015 earthquake with thousands losing their livelihood. “Since the ban, if any women needed to fly out, proper reasons and, if it was an official tour, guarantee from her company were sought by the embassy. After the Nepal earthquake, it became easy for the agents to lure thousands of stranded and orphaned girls offering them well paid jobs in west Asian countries. We have managed to trace one suspected trafficker and role of airlines and airport staff is also suspected in the matter. It’s a very difficult thing for the United States to turn them away.”Legally, the United States cannot turn away many of the 52,000 children who have crossed the U.S.-Mexico border alone since the beginning of last October. Border patrol agents can turn back any Mexican children at the border but those from non-contiguous countries – mostly Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala – are taken into custody and must be transferred into the care of the Office of Refugee Resettlement (an agency within the Health and Human Services (HHS) Department). They will care for the children while they seek to place them with relatives or guardians within the United States as they await deportation proceedings.

The supporters and cadres of agitating Madhesi parties have been staging a sit-in protest at the Miteri Pul, the bridge that adjoins Nepal and India since September 24.Goods are smoothly entering Nepal via Birgunj from India without any hindrance after the Raxaul-based Indian customs allowed carts ferrying them to cross the border. Cargo vehicles, however, have not entered Nepal. Numerous carts laden with different goods, including clothes, shoes, different hardware and plastic, crossed the border on Saturday night. Importers are clearing the customs on the Indian side at day time and bring in the goods to Nepal on carts at nights. When the carts cross the border and pass by the Miteri Pul, the UDMF cadres do not obstruct them. The number of protesters taking part in the sit-in at the no man’s land along the Nepal-India border has decreased of late. The border entry point witnessed a virtual standstill after the United Democratic Madhesi Front resorted to border obstruction following the promulgation of Constitution four months ago.

“It means civil servants will not be transferred from one service category to another,” said Pandit. He said a special class mechanical engineer cannot become secretary at the finance ministry but can be promoted only under the technical service. So far, special-class officers (secretary-level) were eligible for transfers to other service categories.Minister for General Administration Lal Babu Pandit on Wednesday said the recently-amended Civil Service Act bars transfer of civil servants from one service category to another. Organizing a press meet at Singha Durbar to inform about the amendments to the Civil Service Act approved by parliament, he said civil servants from now onward shall be transferred or promoted only within the service category in which they started their service. The fourth amendment to the Civil Service Act has six service categories for special class civil servants (secretary level) — Nepal Administration Service, Nepal Agriculture and Forest Service, Nepal Legal Service, Nepal Foreign Service, Nepal Administration Service and Nepal Auditor Service.

Nepal slips further in corruption ranking

Nepal with a score of 27 out of 100 ranks in 130th position, slipping by four positions from last year, states the report titled 'Corruption still rife but 2015 saw pockets of hope'. Bhutan -- the least corrupt country in the region -- ranks 27 out of 168 countries, with a score of 65. Last year Nepal was placed 126th with a score of 29. Globally, Nepal is the 16th most corrupt country. According to the report, overall weak governance and politics has dragged the country down. Nepal is the third most corrupt country in South Asia and 15th globally, according to Transparency International (TI).Nepal continues to perform poorly and has been one of the most corrupt countries, according to the report. Conflict and war, poor governance, weak public institutions like the police and the judiciary, and a lack of independence in the media characterise the lowest ranked countries.

The rail line, to be funded by a Chinese government-backed consortium, is just one of several high-profile projects in the valley that show the domestic benefits of a growing Chinese economy and its perils.“The project will be a landmark in overseas investment for the Chinese railway sector and serve as a model of international cooperation,” Yang Zhongmin, chairman of China Railway International, a newly formed Nevada firm owned by Chinese project backers, told Xinhua, a Chinese newspaper.The state-owned project, which could break ground as soon as September 2016, is expected to cost at least $100 million.It also is a chess move by China, which is looking to beat Japan in a race to export high-speed rail technology.

For China, the deal marks an opportunity to establish a foothold in the U.S. rail market. The largest bullet-train company in Japan had expressed interest in XpressWest several years ago but lost out. Just weeks after China won the Los Angeles-Las Vegas route, it also beat Japan in a months-long battle for an Indonesian contract to build a railway from Jakarta to Bandung.

To be fair, XpressWest is just one of a number of proposals to link Southern California and Southern Nevada that have come and gone since the 1970s. In the late 1990s, a proposal to connect Anaheim and Las Vegas with a magnetic levitation train was floated but went nowhere. In 1999, Amtrak proposed upgrading service to use high-speed Spanish-made Talgo trains, but the concept sputtered. Then there was the Z-Train, which was supposed to have gone into service in 2012. And a startup based in El Segundo, Calif., now is looking to bring Elon Musk’s Hyperloop to the route.

As Chinese capital takes a great leap outward, other projects funded by Chinese investors could take shape. Electric cars from Faraday Future, a project linked to Chinese tech conglomerate Leshi Internet Information and Technology, could roll off a production line in North Las Vegas, if a rumored tax incentive passes a special session of the Legislature that Gov. Brian Sandoval may call.

Chinese investment also has helped fund several new casinos in Las Vegas, including the Lucky Dragon, SLS Las Vegas (almost a quarter of the financing came from Chinese investment) and Resorts World Las Vegas, which broke ground in May with funding from the Genting Group, an Asian multinational corporation.

According to him, we are yet another time doing great mistake by jumping into the same unsuccessful attempt of writing constitution through the Constitution Assembly. His solution was either to draft a constitution by forming expert’s committee or by a small political committee composed of major leaders of all political parties and approve it by a parliament. So, he preferred to hold a fresh parliamentary election rather than the election of Constitution Assembly. He also opined on the pressing issues of federalism in Nepal. Citing examples of ‘coming together’ and ‘holding together’ types of federal practices around the world, he asserted that the ‘holding together’ types of federalism are the most unsuccessful practices in the world. Black colored items like sesame oil and black clothes are also donated on the day. Shani is so dreaded that many Hindus avoid journeys on Saturday. There are also numerous tales regarding the evil effects of Shani. But generally it is believed that Lord Hanuman devotees are unharmed by Sani. Legend has it that Lord Hanuman had rescued Shani from Ravana. This happened during the burning of the Lanka episode in the epic Ramayana. Lord Shani had then promised that he would not trouble Lord Hanuman devotees. It must be noted here that the deity worshipped on a particular day might vary from region to region and community to community. The result of all upvaas or fast depends on the person. Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said that the blockade will be lifted in a few days and that his upcoming visit to India will not take place before border restrictions are eased.

Speaking to a select group of journalists in Baluwatar, two days after the passage of the first amendment to the constitution—in an effort to address concerns of Madhesi parties, Oli expressed hope that crisis caused by the border restrictions will end soon.“This is undeclared blockade and will open unofficially. All border points obstructions will ease within two or three days,” said Oli on Tuesday. “I will not go to India until the border reopens.”

PM Oli said that the issue of federal structure can be revisited through a commission. “Constitution has made provision for a federal commission if the federal state delimitation is not satisfactory,” said Oli.

PM also insisted that the disgruntled Madhes-centric parties have been satisfied by the constitution amendment. “They, however, are unwilling to accept it openly. Because they fear that their agenda could be hijacked by other groups.”He also commented that his vision to develop the country was mocked at. “I have been established as a laughing material when I declared my ambitious plans,” said PM Oli.
